Particularly at Puerto Sandino, a river mouth that has received significant sand accumulation, we anticipate a stellar surf season ahead. The abundant sand is likely to create excellent sandbanks, setting the stage for ideal wave conditions next year.
This year, the surf at Puerto Sandino was promising early on, but the heavy rains disrupted the sandbanks, impacting the wave breaks. However, as we transition into the dry season, we expect those banks to stabilize and provide exciting surf opportunities.
While the rainy season may be winding down, we want to highlight that November, December, and January remain fantastic months for surfing in Nicaragua. Although these months fall outside of the main surf season, they typically offer clean, organized swells and some of the best waves of the year.
For beginners, this period is especially advantageous. With fewer surfers in the water and a lower likelihood of big swells, conditions are perfect for those looking to learn and improve. From now until March, the waves are accessible for all skill levels, allowing beginner / intermediate surfers to practice in a supportive environment.
